Cast Drawing I

Student

This course teaches several important principles of drawing. By studying casts of Renaissance and Classical sculpture under ideal lighting conditions, students learn to make accurate drawings and render them volumetrically to achieve a strong 3-dimensional effect. These principles of drawing can be applied to any subject drawn from observation. Students will spend between 1 hour and 6 hours on each drawing in this course, and will complete approximately 8 drawings in the 4-week session.

All students must demonstrate satisfactory completion of this course before proceeding with other subjects, and many students will benefit from continuing this class for multiple sessions.

Hours: Once per week, from 10:30am to 5:30pm, with 1-hour lunchbreak, for a session of 4 weeks

Cast Drawing II

Mannella   Mannella

Students will build upon the foundation laid in the previous course by completing another drawing to a greater degree of finish. Students are encouraged to work from a sculpture representing a life-size human head. Most students will complete either 1 or 2 drawings in the 4-week session.

Upon successful completion of this course, students may proceed to other courses in drawing or oil painting at the instructors' discretion.

Hours: Once per week, from 10:30am to 5:30pm, with 1-hour lunchbreak, for a session of 4 weeks

Drawing Fundamentals
For students with little previous experience in drawing, this is the recommended first course. We will discuss tonal application, composition in perspective, measuring techniques, and construction of geometric forms. Most students will complete this class in 1 session of 4 weeks, and can then continue with Cast Drawing I.
